Senior Environmental Graphic Designer – Innovative, Leadership

ID/Lab is looking for an experienced, innovative, senior level Environmental Graphic Designer  to work on a broad range of EGD projects including wayfinding signage, information graphics, environmental and brand graphic solutions for hospitals, urban, corporate, laboratories, teaching, retail and mixed-use development projects.

Your role will be to lead the graphic and industrial design team in developing designs for our (mostly) larger projects, from creative concepts through to complete documentation. Your designs should be timeless, intelligent, and sustainable, so that they will enhance the overall quality and usability of the environments they are used in.

ID/Lab specialises in EGD. We only work in the built environment; no annual reports, posters or CD covers for us!  We have a relatively young design department, rapidly growing and maturing and constantly developing ways to improve and excel. At the moment, most of the design work comes from projects with a strong focus on evidence based wayshowing strategies, but more and more we get involved in projects for which the creative design is the most important deliverable.

You will have an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in this growth (and in the organisation), and to put your creative and professional stamp on the work delivered.

WHAT DO WE WANT?

As the leader of the design team, you will have at least the following qualities:

  • experience in graphic, interior or architectural design

  • very strong 2D & 3D conceptual skills

  • able to coach the other, younger, designers in the team

  • able to work closely with our clients in the development of solutions

  • understand the design process, from initial concept, design development, design intent, and final implementation to design build project completion

  • have knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes

  • able and willing to delegate if required

  • able and willing to critique the work created, others, and your own

  • able to argue your point of view without being attached to it

  • able to work side-by-side with the strategists, to develop working solutions

  • experience supporting client and vendor relationships

  • technical proficiency in the CS package and a 3D modelling program such as Solidworks

  • strong problem solving and decision making skills as well as a true passion for creative design – rounded in reality and usability

  • positive attitude and a willingness to contribute to all areas of our company

WHAT WILL YOU GET?

  • a wide variety of projects (such as the Melbourne’s Arts Centre and the New Royal Adelaide Hospital, universities, retail, towns, parks and other urban spaces)

  • a leading role in our projects

  • colleagues that are passionate about what we do

  • colleagues for whom work is not the end-all; we work hard when it is required and we enjoy life to balance the hard work

  • a company culture that is based on integrity, respect, encouragement, motivation, independence, personal growth and quality

  • flexibility (maybe you have school-age kids and you are looking for a job that understands that you sometimes need to be home when they come home, or need to spend time with them in the holidays? That’s us)

  • a package fitting your experience and your contribution to the company

Interested?

Please do: Send us a letter explaining who you are, and what makes you the perfect candidate for this role. Add a portfolio that show the breadth and quality of your work and send it to jobs [at] idlab.com.au

Please DON’T: approach us if you do not have a current visa. We get too many applications from people that live too far away to cycle to the studio, and can’t move here……..
